Online Dyslexia Tutor (Wilson Reading Tutoring):

As a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, I offer online tutoring for students with dyslexia, using the Wilson Reading System. Since this is is a highly structured, research based program, a commitment from both the tutor and the family is required in order to be successful. While there is a commitment involved, Wilson has been proven to work. The instruction in this program involves a high level of planning and expertise. Therefore, Wilson tutoring costs more than other types of reading tutoring.

The Wilson Reading System is based upon the concepts of the Orton Gillingham approach, which is a multi-sensory phonics method. Here is more information about the Wilson Reading Tutoring service that I offer: Tutoring For Students with Reading Disabilities – Reading Ready Skills.

Consultations: (no openings currently)

I offer consultation style services for homeschooling families teaching reading, as well as parents with children in public/private schools looking to learn more about how to help or support their child’s reading skills.

For public/private school families, consultations center on determining where the child is in relation to grade level expectations, as well as gaining an understanding of the curriculum being used in school. If needed, I help families to understand the concepts, skills and terms that are being taught, in order to help them to incorporate these things into their help at home. I can also help to develop an individualized plan, based on the child’s academic needs, personality and learning style, that includes tips and tricks for extra practice at home.

Consultations for homeschooling families center on the family’s chosen style of education. These consultation sessions begin with the family sharing their style, beliefs, and sharing any challenges that they might be facing with teaching reading. It helps to have this conversation at the beginning of our session, because it helps to get an idea of what suggestions, ideas or resources I can offer that the family might find helpful.

Homeschool Portfolio Evaluations (NH):

For the past few years, I have evaluated homeschool portfolios. It is not required to have a certified teacher evaluate your child’s homeschool portfolio. However, it is one of the assessment options in NH. I am currently only reviewing portfolios through virtual meetings or drop off/pick up at my home. Families can also choose to meet virtually and then send me their portfolio to view in person and return to them.

While I’m not a homeschooler myself, I feel that I am able to respect the individual learning experiences that homeschooling families can provide. I enjoy learning about the exciting and dynamic ways that families are able to educate their children. My personal rule while evaluating homeschool portfolios is that I do not offer teaching advice unless the parents ask for it. I feel that the parents have chosen their own way of educating their child for a reason. I am looking for progress according to the child’s age and ability, which is the expectation stated by NH law.
