Why I Started Reading Ready Skills

My name is Laura. I’m a mom of 3, wife, and Special Education Teacher.

I’ve taught and/or tutored students in elementary and middle school for 18 years. I love teaching, but I especially love teaching reading!

I started creating my own reading resources, because I couldn’t always find what I needed for my students. At times, would find an activity that seemed like a great fit.

However, after looking at it further (often after purchasing it), I would realize that it wasn’t always a fit for my students.

As a special education teacher, the needs of my students can be unique and specific. So, yes, I’m picky! I want activities that focus on what they say they do.

Well, I found that “decodable texts” aren’t always really decodable. “Easy Readers” aren’t always easy. So I started to make my own activities.

In each resource that I create, I make an effort to incorporate my experience with teaching reading, current brain based science, and my knowledge of learners in grades K-8.

I also try my best to give a clear explanation of each product, because I want to make sure that teachers/parents are getting the exact product that they need. We are all busy these days and don’t have time to waste.
