Thanks for stopping by! My name is Laura. I’m a mom of 3, wife, and Special Education Teacher. I’m the owner/founder of Reading Ready Skills. Here is some information about me:
- For the past 19 years, I have taught special education/reading.
- I’m a phonics nerd. I love explaining the rules of the English language. (Yes, there are rules). It drives my own kids crazy!
- I am passionate about helping struggling readers. I know first–hand the challenges that parents go through when their child is struggling to learn how to read.
- My strength is individualizing instruction in the moment. It’s an amazing process to assess a student’s progress as we work, quickly identify their trouble spots, and then come up with a “plan b”.
- I’m picky when it comes to the resources that I use with students, whether it’s in my full time job as a teacher or in my business as a tutor. If I need a decodable text (which usually contains only words that a student can sound out), then that is what I am looking for. On this site, you can also find some of activities that I have created. I started creating my own reading resources, because I couldn’t always find exactly what I needed for my tutoring students. I want to make sure that teachers/parents are getting the exact product that they need.
